It seems that now lockdown restrictions have lifted, British Eventing have put out a proposed schedule of summer and autumn events and the much needed rain arrived everybody came out of hibernation!
It has been highly exciting for us, and the animals here at Rosamund Green Farm, to welcome friends (at a safe distance) and their owners to cross country school once more. Everyone is genuinely thrilled to be out and about again. The Eventing world is so small that pretty much all your competitors become great friends too and whilst it has been really lovely to enjoy the peace and tranquillity here in our pretty little part of the West Country it's nice now to feel the buzz once more.
Through lockdown we have been quietly ticking away with the young horses and have been extremely pleased with 'The Class of Spring 2020', all 4 and 5 year olds that have been carefully sourced over the winter months. They are all types that seem increasingly difficult to find and we spend a lot of time on the road and indeed in the air sourcing them. On top of finding the ones that tick all the boxes that we require for Eventing they must also pass a thorough vetting and full set of x-rays. Some have been bought as just broken 3 year olds but you have to see through to the potential. I would like to think that people know that we have a certain quality of horse and that each one has been carefully and correctly produced. Needless to say as soon as lockdown eased all these youngsters got snapped up pretty quickly and it will give me great satisfaction to see them go on to future successes with their new riders.
Hopefully, it won't be too long until the excitement of seeing new heads appearing over the stable doors begins! I am looking forward to seeing what the rest of the year brings and hopefully new partnerships ahead.
In the meantime the main man 'Artistiek' needs to start thinking about tightening up his tummy line, stud holes are being drilled back into his shoes and the dusting off of his dressage saddle ! He has loved the last few weeks playing out on the cross country course squealing for fun but it looks like the more serious stuff is on the horizon with some Eventing now planned. I should think these horses must have been more than a little confused this year!
Hopefully everyone will continue to remain sensible and safe.
