I think we are all looking forward to the Spring, better weather, easier working conditions and of course getting out and about with the horses and catching up with friends. Winter can be a bit of a slog.
Re-wind to last autumn and we had a very successful trip to Ireland at the Monart Sales where we looked at no less than 114 3 year olds, all potential event horses. After whittling it down to a shortlist of 6 that we really liked we came home with 3 super unbroken young horses.
All 3 haven’t disappointed and between Sophie Damment (who shares the yard with me) and myself we began the important process of breaking them in. Lots of long reining, handling in the stable and confident work has helped them develop into happy horses with hopefully successful careers ahead for them all.
Two have been snapped up very quickly by professional riders. This gives me great pride when I see them go on, hopefully to great things and is very much part of my business plan. I would love to be the ‘go to’ person to provide unspoilt, well produced, quality horses. I think people are becoming more and more aware as to how difficult these types are to find, having to tick so many boxes to potentially be top horses. We certainly cover some lengthy miles to source them.
At the other end of the scale I have my wonderful, very experienced campaigner ‘Artistiek’ looking wonderful, cheeky as ever, out jumping and looking forward to campaigning him at some of the bigger shows. It has been disappointing not to have had another crack at Badminton over the last couple of cancelled ‘covid’ years but it gives me huge satisfaction that he is 18, has had a long glittering career and we can still enjoy so much with him.
Of course over the winter we have relished the barn filling up with our Burlybed deliveries. All the horses in the yard have lovely Burlybed Light Extra beds. We love Burlybed and certainly wouldn’t choose anything else.
I hope everyone has a great 2022 season whether it be at grassroots level or 5* and hope to see some of you here at Rosamund Green for cross country schooling and if you need any advice or want to see Burlybed in use don’t hesitate to ask !
